April 12th, 2007 - For die-hard Spidey fans, May 4 can’t get here fast enough. The third film of the franchise incarnation has plenty to make geek blood boil: Sandman, Harry’s version of the Goblin, and freaking Venom! Oh, and lets not forget about Kirsten Dunst who’s as lovely as ever.
But not only does the Spidey get a new film that day, it also gets 8, yes 8, incarnations of a new videogame based on the movie and the comics. In the game, players can experience the actions of heroic red-suited Spider-Man and, for the first time ever, his darker, more mysterious black-suited persona. The black suit magnifies Spider-Man’s strength, agility and durability, but the longer you use it, the tougher it is to control.
Set in a larger, dynamic, free-roaming New York City than the web-slinger’s previous outing, the game gives players the freedom to choose their own gameplay experience and choose their own adventure, working through movie-based and original storylines, fully integrated city missions, side quests, and going for performance rewards including improved speed, combat maneuvers and agility. Players can also draw upon Spider-Man's completely revamped combat abilities as they protect the city and defeat nemeses using expanded aerial fighting, finishing moves and dynamic webbing during missions and epic boss battles. In addition to the big bosses, players will also have to tackle the three vicious rival gangs that are trying to take over NYC by not only fighting, but using his webs to catch falling objects, fix hazards like broken train rails, and even slingshot from the tops of buildings for increased speed and huge air.
The PlayStation 3 exclusive version adds a number of bonus features not available on other platforms. For example, players can become the "New Goblin" - using a unique locomotion system that's entirely controllable with the SIXAXIS gamepad, the New Goblin is be able to zip through the city streets and between skyscrapers and other buildings. Also look for exclusive webisodes from the Spider-man 3 movie, an interview with producer Avi Arad, behind the scenes talks with the film's cast and more goodies.
The Wii and PS2 versions will have two bonus villains, Morbius and Shriek, with the Wii version also taking advantage of the Wiimote for specific controls as well.
